I saw God at Sonic tonight. Yes, you heard me right, at Sonic.

Evin and I were leaving Walmart, and we saw an old man on a bicycle asking another man for something. You could tell that they did not know each other, and that the man on the bicycle was most likely homeless. With no response from the man in the car, the man on the bicycle rode off.

As we were pulling out of the Walmart parking lot Evin asked me "Hey, isn't that the man we just saw asking someone for money?"

I looked out my window, and there was God. Right there in the Sonic Drive In.

The same man that we saw in the parking lot not two minutes earlier, was now asking a young college student who was pulled in the drive in the same. I watched the young man get out of his car and gesture to the old man to follow him. The old man was taken back and literally for about 5 seconds just stood there with his bike next to the other man's car. Then he followed the college student into the picnic table area. The college student shook his hand, introduced him to his friend who had gotten out of the car to follow them, and gestured for him to sit down.

You see, someone 5 minutes earlier told this man no for whatever reason. Not to say that the man in the Walmart parking lot was rude, but just decided at that moment that he could not help the man on the bicycle. But then God showed up...

He showed up at the Sonic Drive In in College Station, through a college student. Not only did the college student offer to help this man, but he offered God's love to him all at the same time. He didn't just give him a five dollar bill, but gave him food to eat, and for 30 minutes a friend to talk to.

It was so nice to see this. It touched my heart so much, and reminded me why I am here. Not to be the best dressed or make all A's. Not to worry about a flat tire or how I am going to wear my hair tomorrow. I'm here for a reason that is so much more simple. I'm here to love God.

I guess God loves Route 44's as much as I do. :)

Isaiah 41:10

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my rightouts hand."

Fitz The Fox

Sunday, November 9, 2008
Evin went to pick up Ashtin this weekend, and before Evin even had a chance to say anything, this was the conversation.

Ashtin:
"So Daddy, who did you vote for?"

Evin: (taken back for a second that his five year old daughter just asked him who he voted for):
"John McCain. Why?"

Ashtin: (In an aggravated voice)
"Well in school I voted for Betsy The Beaver, but Fitz The Fox won."

Evin: (trying not to laugh hysterically)
"Do you know who won the real president election?"

Ashtin: (rolling her eyes and shaking her head disappointed):
"Yeah... Rock Obama."

If only life was as simple as voting for Betsy The Beaver and Fitz The Fox... :)

Have a BLESSED day! :)

Friday, November 7, 2008
A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl, Shelby. She wanted to know what the United States looked like. Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby and said, 'Go into the other room and see if you can put this together. This will show you our whole country today.'

After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed him the map, correctly fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. 'Oh,' she said, 'on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together.'

My favorite memory.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

I came across this picture today when I got home. It is my very favorite memory of Momma. Still today as an adult, if I am feeling down or just blah, I can hear Momma playing the piano and feel better. I am SO BLESSED to have Donna Myrick as my mother!! :)

So simple.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008
As all of you know by now, the president elections are over. We now have a new president, and no matter what any of our opinions are, what's done is done.

I was on my way home tonight from watching the elections, and this song came on KSBJ. All of a sudden everything seemed so simple. It was like God was saying, "Hello world. Remember me? I'll take care of you."

No matter who you voted for in this election, continue to pray for our country, but more than that continue to thank God every day for all of the blessing that he has in store for us.

God is in control.

Giving Goals

Monday, October 20, 2008
GOD IS AWESOME!!! :)
Church was absolutley wonderful today! We had a guest preacher today come and give the sermon. His name was Dr. Elijah Stansell, and he was AMAZING to say the least. Today was commitment Sunday, so the sermon was on giving. The message spoke to both Evin and I very much, and God put this really cool idea on our hearts that I want to share with you.

This is what Evin and I are doing from today on. I have been praying about how I can give more to the Lord. How I can give without being rich, how I can give unselfishly, how I can give daily, etc.
Well, the Lord answered my prayers today, and here it is.
Giving Goals...
Every Sunday evening Evin and I are going to sit down and write ways that we want to give to God that week. (We started tonight.) Here's the catch...
You have to actually put the effort into completing these "giving goals." We are starting with only 3 each, and then adding one each week. After you reach one of your "Giving Goals", cross it off the list. Put it on the refrigerator or somewhere you will see it everyday. This list of "Giving Goals" is a visible reminder of the ways that you are going to give to God that week.
If you want to, do this with us!! I am posting my "Giving Goals" on the side of my webpage, and I encourage you to do the same.
Just think, if everyone had at least three "Giving Goals" a week, the Lord will be recieving so many blessings from his children he won't even know what to do! :)

Have a BLESSED week!!!

My precious Grandparents.

Thursday, September 25, 2008
I went to visit my Mawmaw in the hospital today. I posted not to long ago about her. She has breast and bone cancer. All together, she has lived with cancer since 1998. She recently had surgery and now is back in the hospital with more complications. When I went to see her this afternoon, only she and my Pawpaw were there. I'm going to be honest, I've seen her throughout her battle with cancer, and have seen her in the hospital more than once, but this time was different. It was really hard...
And you know what happened? God spoke to me right there in that hospital room. Was I sad? Yes. Was I confused? Absolutely. But more than anything, I was BLESSED.
I sat there and watched my 86 year old Pawpaw get up every two minutes to re-wet her washcloths so that her fever would go down. I watched my Mawmaw lie completely still in bed, and still...I felt so blessed.
I realized tonight how lucky I truly am. I am twenty-two years old, and have all four of my grandparents still alive. Not only that, but knew and loved very much three of my great-grandparents, one who is still alive today. Today pick up your phone. Call your grandparents. Tell them that you love them. Tell them you are blessed to have them in your life.
Whenever the Lord decides that it is time for Mawmaw to go home, it will hurt. It hurts now to think about it. But tonight the Lord told me.."Katy, look at what I have given you."

Thank you Lord. Thank you for my grandparents and great-grandparents. Thank you for the memories that I have with each of them, and thank you for making me realize tonight, that it hurts so much to see Mawmaw like this only because you let me love her so much. Thank you for blessing me Lord. In so many wonderful ways...

Worth Reading...

Saturday, September 20, 2008
Have a BLESSED day!!

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She
hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always
there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see
the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages
came off, she was able to see everything, including her
boyfriend.

He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The
girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The
sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected
that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life
led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her
saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before
they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes.
Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who
was always by their side in the most painful situations.

Life Is a Gift

Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't
speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone
who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone
who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went
too early to heaven.

Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who
walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the
unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your
job.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on
your face and think: you're alive and still
around.

The weekend....finally!

WOO HOO!! IT'S THE WEEKEND!!!!!!

This week has seemed to go by SO SLOW!!! It was a good slow week though...

I LOVE MY JOB THIS YEAR!!! I teach the study skills class at Oakwood Intermediate, and boy does it keep me busy!! Speaking of work, funny story....
I have spent two weeks with my classes on organizing their binders. I went out and bought 60 yellow folders and spent two days on explaining what they are, how you use them, how not to use them, etc..
One of my little friends in my classes forgot his the next day after I handed them out. Then the next....and the next...and the next....and finally a week and a half had gone by and still no take home folder. I approached my little friend about this...

me: "Friend, where is your folder?"

friend: "my binder's in my locker."

me: "Take the hall pass, go get it, and make sure you bring the folder with you."

friend: "I have a problem."

me: "what's that?"

friend: "you see what happened was... that hurricane came and my momma said that we needed to evacuate...(p.s. my friend lives in college station.)...so momma took us around the block to my grandma's house because we had to evacuate to be safe from the hurricane."

me: (Trying SO HARD not to laugh.) "And...."

friend: "Ms. Myrick, that Hurricane Ike swept up all my homework."

me: silent. That was the best excuse I have heard in a while. :)

ImageChef.com
I went and visited with my grandparents yesterday. They live in Bryan and I just wanted to see them.
My grandmother has been battling cancer for years. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer, and then it spread to bone cancer. She is one of the strongest people that I know. She is a soft spoken woman, and very, very rarely talks about her cancer. My grandfather takes care of her, and is quite the opposite of "soft spoken." :)
I went into the bedroom when I got there because Mawmaw was laying down. Her, Pawpaw, and I started talking about me going to school, Mawmaw and I talked about the books we have read this summer, and how I want to go study abroad next summer in Rome. I asked her how she had been feeling this week, and as always she told me she was doing great. Then my Pawpaw said something that I didn't expect. He said, "You know, I wonder sometimes if God has anything left for me to do. I always wanted to raise a family, support my family, and get married. I've done all this and am now taking care of your grandmother. I don't know what else there is for me to do."
I was a little taken back by this only because i've never heard my Pawpaw say anything like this. I told him that God has a purpose for everyone, and that he might not even have gotten his yet. I said that maybe his "wonderful journey" and plan that the Lord has for him, has not even begun. This is when my Grandmother said something that I will NEVER forget, and will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Mawmaw sat up slowly in the bed and said, "The Lord gives everyone a different dance to dance to."
I don't know why these simple words touched my heart so very much, but they did. Here is a woman who has been battling cancer for years, and still wakes up every morning ready to face her next challenge. What she said made me really think about my life.
What dance am I dancing? Is the "beat of my life" fulfilling and upbeat? Once again, God showed me just how amazing that he is. I have no clue what the Lord has in store for me, but I'll tell you one thing, I will ALWAYS keep on dancing....

Yesterday was Father's Day, and Asthin had many surprises for Evin!
We went to the store the day before, and I told her she could pick anything out that she wanted to get for Evin's Father's Day present. She bought a spiderman lunchbox, a toolbox that she covered in stickers, and a baseball that she wrote "DAD" on. Evin of course teared up as soon as he opened his gift. Later that day when Evin was at work she realized that Evin didn't bring his new lunchbox with him!
She said, "Katy!! We have GOT to bring Daddy's lunch to him or he will be starving!!"
So we packed a lunch for Evin and brought him his new spiderman lunchbox to Dillards. She was SO PROUD!! :)

All grown up.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Last night, Kels moved into her new dorm. I had a paper to write and didn't finish in time to help her move in. I was bummed out, because believe it or not I really wanted to be there to help. When I called Momma to check how things were, we only talked briefly because Kelsey was calling on the other line. I hung up the phone and went back to my table in the coffee shop where I was studying.
Then it hit me. My little sister is all grown up.
I guess I have been so excited for her, and we've all been talking about her going to A&M for so long now, I just didn't realize it actually all happened. Just a couple of weeks ago she graduated from highschool, and tonight she is in a dorm at Texas A&M University.
I immediatley called Momma back. I couldn't even focus on talking to Momma though, because I wanted to know how to get to Kels's dorm right then. I packed up all my stuff, paper still not written, and drove to Kels's new dorm. Momma had told me that her new roomate has not moved in yet, and that she was there alone. I hated that! I just wanted to make sure she was ok...
I drove into the parking lot and saw Kels waiting for me. My little sister. My very best friend. Standing infront of her new college dorm. It was so awesome.
We hung out out for a couple of hours, and just sat and talked like we always do. (Also because her tv and internet are not hooked up yet. :) )
Any part of me that was worried about her was now gone. My little sister is such a strong young woman. I look up to her so much. I don't think any big sister could of been as proud of their little sister as I was last night.

Momma has told both of us our whole lives that she always loved every minute of us growing up. She told us to enjoy every part of our lives that God gives us, and to never look back. I remember this every day, and pray that Kelsey will as well. I am so excited for her!!! :)
I am so blessed that God gave me my best friend as my little sister.

Girls Time!

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Baby Reece(Evin's neice),came over today to play. Ashtin decided that she would be the babysitter and let me know when I needed her help. :) They are TOO CUTE!!

Slinky the Spider.

Monday, June 9, 2008

Ashtin and I went to the mall today to visit Evin at work. On the way to the food court we stopped by a "hippy" store that Ashtin loves to go look at. They have hermit crabs, lava lamps, fun jewlery and rainforest animals. She immediatley went to the back where they keep the stuffed animals. There were beautiful pink and purple dolphins, butterflies, lady bugs, and tons of other GORGEOUS animals. I told her to pick one out that she liked, and what does she hold up? A blue spotted spider!! She was smiling ear to ear and said, "We have GOT to get this to scare daddy!"
If you don't know, Evin is TERRIFIED of spiders. So what did we do? We bought the "stuffed" spider, of course!! :) She has already made plans to "put it on his pillow" when he gets home from work.
I love this girl! :)

I am 22!!

Thursday, June 5, 2008
Today was my birthday, and I had a WONDERFUL day!
All day long I got to spend time with my family and I loved every minute of it!!!!
Momma gave me a gift certificate for Riviera Day Spa, and I already used part of it. :) Evin gave me a dozen pink roses, and Ashtin gave me a "candy fan". (Which she searched for in her bedroom closet. :) ) Even though I appreciated the gifts more than anything, my day was so special because I spent it with my family.
I went over to Momma's and told Kelsey bye before she leaves for her trip. I can't believe that Kels will be at A&M when she gets back from her senior trip. I am so proud of her. I am so proud of US! I thank God everyday for Momma and Kels...
My day ended with Evin, Ashtin, and Tucker at Central Park. We had a BLAST!!! I am so thankful for every single person God put into my life.
